Today's Project - Dark Pony in Oil Pencil

I became so enamored of the last project on black that I just had to try another one. The practice is all good since I have an upcoming commission on black - YAY! Just waiting for the larger sized paper to arrive.

Anyway, here's a Shetland pony. He is listed on eBay.

This is absolutely beautiful. I just love oils. I don't think you need any more practice, it is perfect.

i love painting in oils, but i almost never do these days because the cleanup is such a project! i've never tried oil pencil, but they look amazing - such great blending and texture - and the effect on the black paper is wonderful. hope to see more :-)

Thanks to you both for the nice comments on what has become one of my favorite pieces! JME, I tried the non-stinky brush cleaner with oils that was much nicer than turpentine. However oils still take forever to dry and still are a mess to work with. :-) I *LOVE* the oil pencils. They blend beautifully and are more precise and less "greasy" than pastels.

This pony's soul shines through-- it's lovely. Oil pencils - I've tried watercolor pencils and I really enjoy them. I'll try them. I love painting in oils but it is a complicated, long-term project. I confess that I kind of like the smell of it. Unfortunately, no one else in my house does.

Hi Victoria, thank you for the nice comment. I had no idea you were an artist! You should post some of your stuff.
