Today's Equine Art - Mare and Foal in Pencil

An intimate moment passes between a mare and her foal. I love the shapes in this drawing. The foal is at its most vulnerable, and only a portion of the mare is shown to illustrate her size in contrast, while she stands over the baby protectively. I tried to show how the light was hitting the foal softly, as it might through a stall window.

This is pencil and conte on grey charcoal paper, about 10 x 13".

Today's Project - Palomino Mare with Foal

I decided this piece needed something so I added the baby. This is conte with oil pencil on black charcoal paper, about 8 1/2 x 11". It's listed on eBay.

Today's Project - Morgan Filly

Prada Blue is, yes, a Morgan. Are you sensing a theme here? *smile* Actually I am accumulating some pieces in a horizontal format for my Morgan Art Calendar.

Prada belongs to Theresa Kroells, who generously sent me some neat photos of her. This is pastel, about 9 x 12".

Horse Easter Cards

My oil painting, "Pal O' Mine", with a mare and foal saying hello to a calico kitty, has translated pretty nicely into an Easter card. The colors are so spring-y. It's wishful thinking as I sit here looking out the window at a blizzard, but I know it's just around the corner. Really.

Anyway these are on eBay.

Today's Project

...A new equine Christmas card design, from a watercolor I did earlier this year. I love the colors and the mare and foal together in the snow... Kind of rare. The inside of the card says, "Let your heart be light".
